Syrah grape itself is thick-skinned and dark, almostblack. Wines made from Syrah are intense with a darkpurple-black color. The wines taste of blackberry and black raspberry fruit, smoke, tar and black pepper, and have a smooth supple texture. Syrah reflects minerality well, and the chalky character of the tannins provides a wonderful backbone to softer, fruitier varietals. Karipidi winery cultivated SYRAH variety in their 30 hectares of privately owned vineyards located at Vounaina Area Thessaly in central Greece. Vounaina, as declared by its name (small mountains), is a hilly area with tradition in wine making. The vineyards, which are registered in a institution for inspection and certification of biological products, are being cultivated exclusively with methods of biological agriculture. The soil is clay, rich in organic substances with a non solid subsoil with nice drainage. The organic vineyards, having a south-east orientation, lie 200 to 300 metres above sea level surrounded by small hills with few rainfalls during spring and a dry summer.
